Uploading a digital ad to Specle

Search for the publication you require in the search bar on the My Ad Deliveries tab or the search bar at the top.

Click Send Ad on the relevant publication page.

Fill in the required fields as indicated by the blue mark. The required sections may vary for different media owners.

  • Advertiser - the company being advertised.
  • Headline - the headline of the ad, or, if you are doing a campaign, it could be the name of the campaign.
  • Insertion date/issue - is the date the ad will go live.
  • Special Instructions - any special requirements, such as the order of ads, or whether it is due for a particular device only.

Drag and drop your file(s) onto the upload window. Specle will match them automatically to the correct size. If your files are the wrong size or the wrong resolution you cannot proceed with the upload, and will need to resize and re-export your files. If you are supplying a HTML file, create a ZIP archive of the HTML content and its assets. Drag and drop your ZIP file onto upload window.

Please note the following:

  • Externally created HTML5 must be supplied at least 5 days prior to deadline.

  • It must contain a single index.html file and cache.manifest.

  • All assets should be included and nothing should be referenced externally.

  • HTML must not exceed the size of the content window. Note that dimensions in Specle are supplied at 2x the CSS unit.

  • Preload images to support thumbnail creation in the app.

  • Keep text 10 px (pt) away from the edge of the screen.

  • Maximum file size for HTML5 ZIP files is 2mb.

  • All ads must be tested throughly by the advertiser using the preview facility in Specle.

If you would like to send a static backup of the ad, please create and upload a static version of the ad, following the steps above.

Click on Continue. You will be taken back to the My Ad Deliveries page, where you can see the status of your ad on the right.

Click on the ad bar to view the Specle Digital Job. Click on Approve and Send to deliver your ad. However, we recommend that you follow the instructions below to preview your ad before clicking Approve and Send.

Previewing your advert

After you have uploaded your ad to Specle, we recommend that you preview it in a browser and on a mobile device. This will let you view the final result and reveal any issues with your ad. This is particularly important for HTML5 uploads. If your ad does not preview correctly on Specle, it will not appear correctly in the digital edition.

1. Click the Preview link on the Specle Digital Job page.

2. You can share the public preview page via the link.

3. Click on a target device to preview the ad in your browser at the exact size of the target device.

4. Click Preview on device to receive instructions about how to preview on a mobile device.

5. Click Email me a preview link to receive a link to view the ad in the PugPig Reader (the app used for previewing). You can forward that email to the email address used on your mobile device.

6. Download the PugPig Reader in the app store. Open up the email on your device, and click the link. It will ask you if you want to open PugPig Reader. Click yes, then click download, then read once the ad appears in the PugPig Reader.

7. If you are happy with the preview, please click on Approve and Send to deliver your file. If not, please click on Start Again on the Specle Digital Job page to replace your current file(s).

Replacing/sub-copying your advert
